So without further ado, here is the Cherry Glazed Pork Roast. Either a great Christmas dinner or homage to the cherry and Traverse City. Your choice!
Now with this pie, I did not burn it and it turned out fantastic. There were skeptics and for good reason. After all, the 50 through the 70s had some very strange foods indeed.
Darling hubby is now holding the plate on the top of the blender while trying to get the meat ground up in the blender and all the while I am hoping I don’t smell smoke.
I like to pair my coffee cake with none other than coffee. It is one of those sweet delights while watching the sunrise over the snow-covered landscape.
I decided that I would make the Christmas dinner. Yes, me. The person who once thought that the way you cooked a turkey was to saw off the wings and drumsticks and sit the bird in a giant boiling pot.
I hope you all didn’t think this was a recipe from the Swiss Alps and now you are disappointed!
So it happened that my husband’s family were guinea pigs for this one, not just my kids. What’s the worst that can happen?
Now, it’s important to understand that because one does not like cooking, one must still do the task in a palatable manner in order to see that everyone does not mutiny.
Cooking for those of us that lack talent or hate to cook saps our humor and zing for life like our cell phone batteries running low and we are unable to recharge.
This meal is one of those ones you can start and forget about it at least for an hour on the stove top.
This was, in all honesty, a little intimidating to me because the name has a bit of that French flare in the title which I associate with “Haute” cuisine and therefore… hard.
So I get to the store and low and behold there was actually a can of Condensed Cream of Shrimp soup (Thank you, Campbell’s!) on the other hand there was no Chutney to be found.
Cook up some cornbread and you really have a winner. You could even grate up some cheese and offer that as a sprinkling over the soup, but you don’t have to, it’s fine as it is.
Sure maybe tacos every Tuesday is what your family loves, and that is fine too, but if not this works on Taco Tuesdays or any other day in the week.
My consolation is that no one knew how this was supposed to really taste and so fibbing here and there or making do was really rather important
I didn’t even know the eggs were part of the recipe until I began to rewrite the recipes into my own personal notes for later use
It is true that the way to a man’s heart is through the Stroganoff
make sure that you remove the chicken from the freezer and thaw in the refrigerator overnight, otherwise you’ll be cooking this far longer and there will be nothing left to redeem this meal.
While Peg Bracken says do not plan for leftovers, she recognizes that we are human and prone to ignore her sage advice, and so she graciously has a section in her cookbook for what to do with the leftovers.
Approaching the kitchen with caution, or maybe procrastination, or a mixture of both, I sulked to work.
